CAMPER SAFETY
Camper safety is always a top concern at SEA. That is why our staff are trained to assess risks and address safety concerns before they become an issue, and should an emergency occur our staff are trained to respond. We have procedures in place for various levels of emergencies. Additionally, we use global best practices to minimize risk and prevent incidents. Your kids are in good hands.
STAFF RATIOS
We aim to keep our ratios to 4 surfers or less to1Surf Coach, but we never operate with more than 5 surfers to1Surf Coach.
SURFBOARDS
Surfboards will be provided by Surf Education Academy, if you do not have your own. If you wish to bring your own hard surfboard it needs to have a nose guard and tail protection, per lifeguard requirements. You can purchase nose guards HERE and tail guards HERE. Alternatively, we will have some nose and tail guards available for purchase (stock depending) and our staff can help you set up nose and tail protection on the first day of camp if you would like.
WETSUITS / RASH GUARDS
Rash guards will be provided to each camper, which they are required to wear while attending camp. This is required by the lifeguards, and is for the safety of all campers. Campers will take their rashguards home with them each day, sanitize and hang to dry and make sure you bring it back for the next day! If rashguards are lost or damaged, they must be replaced at their full cost. Do NOT place wet rash guards on metal hangers (they will leave rust stains), use plastic hangers instead. Do NOT wash rashguards in the washing machine or dryer, use a hose or shower to rinse free of sand and salt and then dry. Rashguards will be deep cleaned by SEA after the last day of camp.
Wetsuits will be provided for those campers who do not have their own (additional fees apply). Campers will take their wetsuits home with them each day, sanitize and hang to dry and make sure you bring it back for the next day! SEA Future Legends Surf Camper Pledge and Code of Conduct
1. I will not put others or myself at risk by making poor decisions. Safety is key. Whenever I make a decision, I will ask myself, “Is this safe for me and my friends?”
2. I am responsible for my own actions.
I will listen to the opinions and ideas of my friends, but I am the one who
decides what I do or do not do.
3. I will always listen to my Surf Coaches and Chaperones.
My Surf Coaches and Chaperones watch out for my friends and me. I will obey their directions both in the water and on land at all times.
4. I will communicate clearly. If I have a problem, I will ask for help.
Challenges are great learning opportunities and I will talk through them with my Surf Coaches and Chaperones, as well as others involved.
5. I will have a positive attitude and good sportsmanship.
Surfing is incredibly rewarding, but developing my surfing skills and confidence is a long process. I will have fun and remain positive as I progress, leaving my stress and problems from daily life on the beach, allowing me to thoroughly enjoy my time in the water.
