SEA will be delivering ISA Certification Courses IN PERSON AND ONLINE via video conference during. Follow up requirements can be completed in person or via video submission and/or private video conference.

The Surf Education Academy has an exclusive partnership with the International Surfing Association (ISA) to deliver the ISA Educational Programs in the United States. The ISA Certifications are the only internationally recognized Surf and SUP Instructor Certifications and set the benchmark for the Surf and SUP industries. The objectives of the ISA Coaching & Instructing Program:
To establish an international system of Coaching and Instructing Courses, improving the safety and efficacy of surf instruction around the world.
To further develop, through educational programs, a body of knowledge on which Coaches and Instructors may draw.
To provide Coaches and Instructors with employment opportunities, encouragement and support.
To advance SUP and Surf coaching and instructing as a globally standardized and highly professional activity with stringent requirements
ISA Surf Level 1
This course offers a baseline of global knowledge for best practices for surf instruction and is a necessity for any surf instructor
Prerequisites:
- Must be 18 years old to obtain certification
- Must be a competent surfer
Follow Up Requirements:
In order to receive the ISA Surf Level 1 certification from the ISA you must complete the following, in addition to sitting the course (online):
- ISA Surf Level 1 Workbook
- 20 documented practical hours: Participants can document hours by logging their next 20 hours of surf instruction in their ISA Surf Level 1 Workbook. This can be accomplished by teaching at surf schools, volunteering with non-profit organizations that host surfing clinics, or through private instruction.
- Participants send their Session Notes and Venue Analysis records (included in the ISA Surf Level 1 Workbook) every 5 hours of surf instruction to their Course Presenter via email for analysis and comment (checking in after instructing 5, 10, 15, and 20 hours).
Obtain and maintain a valid Water Safety Certification - can be obtained through ISA/ILS, Water Safety Specialists, Red Cross, YMCA, or comparable nationally recognized certifications

ISA SURF LEVEL 2
This course is designed to build on the fundamental skills offered in the ISA Surf Level 1 course by further the development of surfing skills and ocean knowledge of participants. This course is recommended for lead Surf Instructors, management staff at Surf Schools, Surf Coaches, surf clubs, and surf teams.
Prerequisites:
- Must be 18 years old to obtain certification
- ISA Surf Level 1 Certification
Follow Up Requirements: In order to receive the ISA Surf Level 2 certification from the ISA you must complete the following, in addition to sitting the course (online or in person):
- ISA Surf Level 2 Workbook
- 30 documented practical hours: Participants can document hours by logging their next 20 hours of surf instruction in their ISA Surf Level 1 Workbook. This can be accomplished by teaching at surf schools, volunteering with non-profit organizations that host surfing clinics, or through private instruction.
